Cllr Rodney Chambers, leader of Medway council announced the bid for city status in 2012 at The Making of Medway Conference held on March 24th 2010.

The bid was endorsed at the end of the day-long conference by the 200+ delegates who had had the opportunity to contribute and engage with internationally renowned expert speakers and leading media figures.



The 2010 one-day conference reflected on the dynamism of the areas burgeoning renaissance and provided an opportunity to consider experience from cities such as Newcastle/Gateshead and Liverpool which have used culture and tourism as a driving force for urban renewal.
